Natasha Hodgson and Ellie Woodacre unpack the term ‘Corporate Monarchy’ – effectively how monarchs relied on those around them to help them rule, particularly their queen consorts, queen regents and queen mother.
As well as explaining what the term is, they also look at the examples of Töregene Khatun (d. 1246) and Eleni of Ethiopia (d. 1522) who ruled on behalf of their families.
This fun animation was the product of a collaboration between the Teaching Medieval Women group and a creative team of Nottingham Trent University BA Animation students, Studio 10.
