SUMMARY:Teaching Medieval Women Nottingham CPD Day
DESCRIPTION:Monday 16 June 2025 – NTU Events and Conferencing Centre\, Newton Building\, Burton Street \nThe Teaching Medieval Women CPD day is intended as a forum to share our experiences pf teaching\, to showcase new examples of medieval women with presentations from academics and teachers\, and to collaborate on and co-produce materials to understand how we can best to support the teaching of this topic and attract and engage a new generation of students. \n\n\n\n\nTeaching Medieval Women is part of a wider project which through collaboration between teachers and academics seeks to bring new research on the lives of medieval women into the teaching of medieval history at school. This project was borne out of a shared realisation that women are often under-represented in many of the medieval history classes taught at\, especially\, KS3 and further up the curriculum as well. We hope to remedy this by bringing together teachers and academics to share our respective knowledge and expertise and to co-create a variety of materials that are attractive\, engaging – and free – to use in the classroom. \n\n\n\n\nThe CPD day will include: \n\nTalks by leading academics on different examples of medieval women\nDiscussion panels on how to incorporate materials into teaching\nResource design workshops\nA complimentary lunch and teas and coffees throughout the day\n\n\n\n\n\nConfirmed speakers for the event on 16th June include: \n\nDr Natasha Hodgson (Nottingham Trent University)\n\n\nDr Ellie Woodacre (University of Winchester)\n\n\nProfessor Jonathan Phillips (Royal Holloway University of London)\n\n\n\n\n\nWe would also be very interested to hear from teachers who would be interested in contributing on the day\, by giving a talk or taking part in a panel\, sharing perhaps their experiences of or their thoughts on teaching medieval women. \n\n\n\n\nWe previously ran a CPD event at Nottingham Trent University in June 2024 and this event proved to be an engaging one. When asked to score on a scale of 0-5 how useful they found the day\, attendees responded overwhelmingly positively with half of respondents rating the day as 5 or ‘very useful’. We would love to see teachers who attended last year’s event at this year’s event if possible to see how they may have incorporated examples of medieval women into their teaching. \n\n\n\n\nThe event is free to attend\, however spaces are limited and so we advise to register your place as soon as possible through Eventbrite. We also ask if you could let us know if you cannot attend so we can ensure others can attend. \n\n\n\n\nThe deadline for registration is 9 June 2025. \n\n\n\n\nIf you have any questions\, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me at Catherine.gower@ntu.ac.uk.
