SUMMARY:Leeds International Medieval Congress Panel
DESCRIPTION:The Teaching Medieval Women team will be chairing a round table panel at Leeds International Medieval Congress 2024. \nTeaching Medieval Women: Facilitating Knowledge Exchange between Schools and Academia – A Round Table Discussion\nThe Teaching Medieval Women project is a collaboration between teachers and academics to bring the experiences of medieval women into the teaching of medieval history at school. This project was born out of a shared realisation that women are still substantially under-represented in many of the medieval history classes taught at school in the UK\, at KS3\, KS4\, and A-Level. The women and themes we highlight derive from a diverse geographical\, religious\, and ethnic spread\, emphasising a fresh and\, in part\, non-European perspective to the study of the medieval period in schools and colleges. The group aims to bring together teachers and academics to exchange our respective knowledge and expertise\, to learn about the challenges involved in driving change forward\, and to develop solutions\, as well as producing a variety of co-created materials that are attractive\, innovative\, engaging\, and based on recent historical scholarship and educational pedagogy. \nThis discussion panel incorporates the core team of the Teaching Medieval Women project\, and we will reflect and invite discussion on teaching experiences\, the delivery of CPD for teachers\, co-creating materials\, and how to develop a sustainable future for the teaching of medieval women in UK schools and across the globe. \nParticipants include Zara Adaci (Claremont High School)\, Vicky Brock (North London Collegiate School)\, Sam Jones (Bolder Academy\, Twickenham)\, and Elena Woodacre (University of Winchester). \nRegister for IMC here.
