SUMMARY:Peter Symonds College CPD Day
DESCRIPTION:Teaching Medieval Women is part of a wider project designed via collaboration between Teachers and Academics to bring the lives of medieval women into the teaching of medieval history. This project was borne out of a shared realisation that women were lamentably under-represented in many of the medieval history classes taught at\, especially\, KS3 and further up the curriculum as well. We hope to remedy this by bringing together teachers and academics to share our respective knowledge and expertise and to produce a variety of materials that are attractive\, engaging – and free – to use in the classroom. \nThe women and the themes we intend to highlight derive from a diverse geographical\, religious and ethnic spread\, emphasising a fresh\, and in part non-European perspective\, to the study of the medieval period in schools and colleges. \nThis CPD day is a forum to share our experiences\, to showcase some examples\, and to collaborate on materials to understand how best to support the teaching of this topic and attract and engage a new generation of students. \nThe proposed programme for the day is as follows: \n10.00 am Registration/coffee aims and plans for the day to include a brief introduction by PSC and UVI students (2) explaining examples of medieval women they have worked on. \n10:30 – 11am – Where are we now? Reflections on current teaching of medieval women. \n11am – 12pm– Power and Authority and Wealth \n12 – 12:45pm – Lunch – college is providing this \n12:45pm – 1:45pm – Patronage\, Culture and Education \n1:45 –2:45pm – Warrior Women \n2:45 – 3pm – Brief Break – tea \n3pm – 3:30pm – British Library exhibition \n3.30 – 3.45pm Final Thoughts and Summary \nRegister free for the event at: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/petersymondscollege1/1236784
